“Portals” was my first solo exhibition. I created works for three rooms at Pitzhanger Manor House (a former residence of the 18th century architect John Soane). The opportunity to exhibit at the Manor house was a continuing journey into Soane’s legacy, through his two houses, and the development of my own work: My journey started when participating in the site-specific project “Reflection” at the John Soane’s Museum.
For “Portals”, I created deceiving devices that “transported” visually the viewer into another space/ room and their own imagination. These artifacts were visual experiences, not just objects to look at but objects to look through.
The concept of “Portal” was visual displacement - questioning the reliability of vision.
« Portals» fût ma première exposition personnelle. J’avais
investi trois pièces du Manoir de Pitzhanger á Londres (l’une des anciennes
résidences du XVIII siècle ayant appartenue à l’architecte de renom Sir John
Soane). Pour cette exposition j’avais crée une
collection de quinze objets d’optique. Ces objets conçus comme des
« portails » transportent le spectateur vers un autre espace ou pièce
du manoir.
L’exposition de Pitzhanger Manor House s’inscrivait dans la lignée d’un parcours personnel de développement artistique. Ce parcours commença avec l’exposition « réflexion » au Musée de Sir John Soane en 2008.
