"Undergrounds" is my first mirror and video project: It is a continuity in theme but also an exciting new departure in form as the audience is merged into places of transit with the added dimension of movement and sound. This video installation (styled to be reminiscent of the London Underground aesthetics) investigates the notion of visual displacement and takes the viewer on a perceptual journey from the familiar to the over-looked and the surreal. It is an exploration of our physical and psychological experience of space and place. Most of all it is about the interaction between virtual/physical, real/illusion that is at the core of my practice. With "Undergrounds", the onlooker becomes part of the work, reflected and arrested by the act of looking and seeing him/herself going back and forth between a real and fictional space...into a liminal space. | Mon environnement urbain m'inspire : les points de transit comme le métro londonien, les souterrains avec leurs réseaux d'escaliers et de corridors flanqués de multiples miroirs de sécurité et de caméras de surveillance. Cette installation vidéo simule l'esthétique du métro de Londres. Les images ont été filmées dans trois lieux dans et autour de son réseau. Son thème aborde la notion de déplacement visuel et emporte le spectateur dans un voyage immobile entre le familier, l'inconnu et l'irréel. C'est une exploration de notre expérience physique et psychologique de la notion d'espace et de lieu. Au-delà, c'est une exploration de l'interaction virtuel/physique, réalité/illusion qui est au cœur de ma démarche. Avec « Undergrounds » le sujet est reflété dans l'espace image et se voit tour à tour apparaÎtre et disparaÎtre entre un lieu réel et un lieu fictif… dans un espace frontière. |
